Barbara Faraci 1944-2005died of cancer September 30, 2005Mother of a very close friend of mine, Barbara died of the cancer of the uterus on September 30th, 2005. Despite her constant and excruciating pain, immobility, bleeding, and loss of rational thought, she remained hopeful for recovery until few weeks before her death. At that time she went into her last coma. The two months before that she spent at the hospital and hospice in Queens, New York, delusional and moaning with pain. The following photographs document her condition at the hospice, her son's mourning, and his attempt to save a memory of her in a death mask. I hope that the series chronicles the suffering of someone dying from a terminal illness and its profound effects on those close to them.This image was taken about 6 weeks prior to her death.
